Rob and I have returned from our longest bike ride to date. We spent the better part of three hours traveling from Orlando to Titusville out on the east coast of Florida. We were racing the sun the whole way out, hoping to make it in time to find a good place to camp. During one of our breaks, we stopped to snap a picture of this tree with just so may birds. (There were more right before I took the picture, of course.) We were, however, privileged enough to observe the majestic Water Cow in its natural habitat. Later we startled a small herd of cows into bolting, which crossed off one of Rob's bucket list items: "start a stampede". With only about a half hour of sunlight left, Rob and I found a secluded spot on some for sale acreage. The tree cover was just enough to shield us from both the road and the houses on the other side. We camped here for the night, which was much colder than previously anticipated. Doing this taught us a few valuable lessons, such as buy another blanket and gloves. In the morning, I snapped this shot and then we dismantled our tent and left about an hour after sunup. Getting to the actual coastline took round-abouts another two hours. We took the long way there, trying to find a place that could sell us breakfast, a good cup of coffee, and give us a place to store our bikes in site of the windows. Unfortunately for me, we at least found a place with food and bike storage. I never did get that good cup of coffee. I did get to try out our GoPro for the first time. I found out the hard way that I should either be sure to use the app to see what I'm taking a picture of, or just be sure my knuckles aren't in front of every single picture. This is the only one that I got without my ham-hand blocking the view. This bridge here would have led us over to Cape Canaveral and the NASA Shuttle Launching Facility. We decided not to tack on the additional ten miles and just admired it all from afar. Around noon we started the long ride home. Here we passed through the Dead Marshes. Here was some... interesting... artwork. I'm looking into how much it might cost to have this painted on all my friend's houses. |
At the end of it, we biked a collective 73 miles over two days back-to-back. Rob hasn't moved since taking a shower, and I'm rather tired myself. It was a good trip though, and we'll be continuing with the biking after a nice two day rest.
