A bus ride from Manresa placed us near the heart of Les Escaldes, Andorra. If you're unfamiliar, Andorra is a tiny nation (about 20 miles across) entirely encased within the Pyrenees. It's a wonderful country, and we quickly realized it was the sort of place we could easily see ourselves living in. Right outside of our hotel was a powerful river, that ran its course through the city. We had a wonderful view of it from our hotel room, which was far superior to the parking lot the other side had to offer. Right away we noticed the temperature difference. It was nearly 21 Celsius in Manresa, and when we got off the bus it had dropped to around 14. With the weather back to a reasonable level, we took right away to walking around the city. Andorra had the charm of a little town in the mountains, but with the feel of a big city. There were hundreds of little shops, eateries, and tobacco stores. Though the internet was metered at our hotel, the view truly made up for it. The mountains were so very impressive, and it was beautiful to see them at night dotted with lights from homes and resorts. The couple of days we were there, we enjoyed a delicious meal at a place called Frankfurt. It was small, but the burgers were amazing, and served with a huge bowl of french fries. Writing this just makes me hungry for those burgers again! The few days we stayed in Andorra were wonderful. The place as a whole is so nice and feels so safe, even at night. It's absolutely a place we would love to go back to again, (though we'll probably be taking a bus into it that time too, haha.) |
